IMS 7f-GEO

Is a secondary ion mass spectrometer IMS 7f-GEO specialized from CAMECA, integrating a dual detector (FC/FC) and Electron Multiplier. The device offers an ultra-fast peak switching speed of 0.3s, reducing measurement time from >3000s to 56s. This is the optimal High-throughput solution for analyzing stable isotopes and rare earth elements (REE) in geochemistry.

Main features

  • Dual Faraday cup detector system (Double FC): Operates in charge mode combined with an electron multiplier (EM), providing extremely accurate reproducibility of stable isotope ratios.
  • High Throughput Analysis: Significantly shortens analysis time (reduced from >3000 seconds to 56 seconds for the 18O/16O ratio) by eliminating the stabilization wait time of the detector.
  • Mass peak switching speed of 0.3s: Flexibly combines magnetic and electrostatic beam deflection, allowing for ultra-fast peak positioning at high mass resolution (MRP).
  • Optimal second-order aberration correction: Supports expanding the field aperture without compromising mass resolution, significantly enhancing signal transmission levels.
  • Comprehensive operational automation: Provides powerful analysis sequence setup functions via software, allowing the machine to maintain continuous measurements overnight without supervision.
  • Multilayer spatial resolution: Flexibly analyzes from surface scales of tens of micrometers down to sub-micron levels without destroying the sample.

Detailed description

Optimal secondary ion mass spectrometry technology

Inheriting the essence of technology from the IMS 7f and 1280 series, the CAMECA IMS 7f-GEO is a compact secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) system for single acquisition. The machine features a breakthrough structure that simultaneously combines a double Faraday cup (Double FC) and an electron multiplier system. This hybrid configuration allows the machine to operate in a pseudo bi-collection mode, providing the ability to analyze isotope ratios with ultra-high precision below the permil level.

Elimination of delay and control of signal noise

The barrier of waiting time for stable probes in traditional mass spectrometry devices is completely eliminated by the IMS 7f-GEO by operating the Faraday cups in charge mode. With no waiting time between two isotope acquisitions, combined with the feature of quasi-continuous primary beam intensity monitoring, the system always maintains a stable measurement background, with minimal drift noise and maximizes analytical throughput.

Automation of intelligent working environment control

Optimized specifically for geoscience working environments and environments with extremely large sample masses, the machine supports an automation interface to control all device parameters from lenses, ion sources to sample station trays. Through dedicated software (WinCurve, WinImage II) on the Windows platform, users can easily set up complex analytical workflows for overnight unattended operation while still obtaining the most statistically reliable dataset.
